Weekday Count Between Dates

Count the weekdays between two dates, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays are not taken into account; only weekends are removed.

Version 3

Things to keep in mind:

  • Public holidays, religious holidays, half-day eves and bridge days are NOT excluded; the tool has no holiday calendar.
  • The start day is not counted. To include it, move the start date back by one day.
  • For shift-based workplaces or those working weekends the result cannot be used directly.
  • The result does not replace legal deadline or limitation period calculations.

About this tool

This tool counts how many weekdays (Monday–Friday) lie between two dates. The start date is not counted and the end date is counted if it is a weekday; that is, the range (start, end] is evaluated.

Formula

  • Weekdays = number of Monday–Friday days in the range
  • Weekend days = calendar days − weekdays
  • Calendar days = end − start

Example: Friday 1 March 2024 → Monday 4 March 2024: the range holds Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so 1 weekday, 3 calendar days and 2 weekend days. 4 March → 11 March 2024: Tuesday–Friday (4 days) + Monday = 5 weekdays. 1 January 2024 → 31 December 2024 holds 365 calendar days, 104 weekend days and 261 weekdays.

How to read the result The count includes only Monday–Friday days; because public holidays are not removed it can be higher than the real number of working days. For delivery or due-date planning, correct the result for weekday holidays that fall in the range. If start and end are swapped, all three values keep their size but turn negative (e.g. 4 March → 1 March 2024: −1 weekday, −3 calendar days, −2 weekend days).

Important: the tool has no public-holiday, religious-holiday or administrative-leave calendar, so public holidays are not subtracted. For a true working-day count, subtract the holidays that fall on weekdays in the range yourself. If the start is after the end the result is negative.

How to use

  1. Pick the start date.
  2. Pick the end date.
  3. Press Calculate.
  4. If there are public holidays, subtract those on weekdays yourself.

Notes

Counting covers (start, end]: the start day is excluded and the end day included. Only Saturdays and Sundays are removed. If start is after end all values are negative. Outputs are whole numbers.
