About this category & regulations

Simple formulas have long been used for questions such as whether your weight is in a healthy range, how many calories you burn a day, your running pace, or which week of pregnancy you are in. This section collects calculators that apply those formulas openly; the aim is a general idea, not a diagnosis.

Subcategories

  • Pregnancy & Fertility (2 tools): Estimated due date by Naegele's rule from the last menstrual period, current pregnancy week and month, and ovulation and fertile window estimates from cycle length.
  • Calories & Nutrition (3 tools): Basal metabolic rate using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, daily calorie needs by activity level and calorie targets for weight goals.
  • Sports & Exercise (4 tools): Calories burned by MET value for running, walking, cycling and other sports, target heart rate zones from maximum heart rate, and running pace from distance and time.
  • Body Measurements & Weight (5 tools): Body mass index (BMI), ideal weight range, waist-to-hip ratio and body fat estimates, with BMI classified into the World Health Organization categories.

How the calculation works

  • Body mass index: BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²); the classes follow World Health Organization (WHO) criteria.
  • Basal metabolism: the Mifflin-St Jeor equation estimates daily resting energy use from age, height, weight and sex; daily calorie need is that multiplied by an activity level.
  • Exercise: target heart-rate zones come from estimated maximum heart rate by age (Karvonen method), running pace from distance and time; body fat is estimated from tape measurements.
  • Pregnancy: the estimated due date is calculated from the last menstrual period with Naegele's rule.

Things to watch

  • BMI does not distinguish muscle mass, age or sex; it can be misleading for athletes and children.
  • The formulas rest on population averages and individual differences are large; real results can deviate noticeably from the estimate.
  • Age, height and weight are your inputs; accuracy depends on them.

Results are estimates and do not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment; consult your doctor or dietitian for health decisions.
