Legal Deadline Calculator (Days, Weeks, Months, Years – HMK 92-93)

Finds the last day of a period set in days, weeks, months or years under Turkish civil procedure (HMK art. 92–93), with the weekend and judicial recess extensions.

Version 2

Things to keep in mind:

  • Public and religious holidays (e.g. 1 January, 23 April, Ramadan and Sacrifice Feasts) are not deducted automatically; if the last day falls on one, the period extends to the next working day.
  • Criminal procedure (CMK) uses a different recess extension, and administrative, enforcement and tax procedure may have different start and extension rules; check the applicable law.
  • Urgent matters (interim injunctions, provisional attachment, alimony etc.) are not subject to the judicial recess; do not apply the recess rule to them.
  • Missed preclusive periods cannot be restored; confirm critical deadlines with a lawyer.

About this tool

The most common mistake with objection, appeal, reply or notice periods is counting the last day wrongly. The Turkish Code of Civil Procedure (HMK) sets clear counting rules; this tool applies them to find the last day.

Rules

  • Periods in days (HMK art. 92/1): the day the period starts is not counted. Last day = start date + number of days.
  • Periods in weeks, months or years (HMK art. 92/2): the period ends on the day of the last week, month or year that corresponds to the start day. If the last month has no such day (e.g. 31 January + 1 month), it ends on the last day of that month.
  • Holidays (HMK art. 93): holidays are included in the period, but if the last day falls on a holiday the period ends at the end of the first working day after it. The tool treats Saturday and Sunday as holidays.
  • Judicial recess (HMK art. 104, optional): the recess runs from 20 July to 31 August. Except for matters not subject to the recess, periods ending during it are extended by one week from its end, so the last day becomes 7 September.

Formula: last day = start + period → (7 September if inside the recess) → (+2 days if Saturday, +1 if Sunday).

Example

Service date 6 March 2026 (Friday), period 15 days: 6 March + 15 days = Saturday 21 March 2026. Because the last day is a holiday, the period ends on Monday 23 March 2026; 17 calendar days in total.

Second example: 10 July 2026 + 14 days = 24 July 2026, inside the recess. With HMK art. 104 the period ends on Monday 7 September 2026.

How to read the result

The last day is the latest day the step can be taken; the period ends at the end of office hours that day (end of day for electronic filings via UYAP). National and religious holidays are not deducted automatically: if the last day falls on one, choose the next working day yourself. If service was electronic, find the service date first with the e-notification tool.

How to use

  1. Enter the date the period starts (usually the service, pronouncement or knowledge date).
  2. Enter the period and choose its unit (days, weeks, months, years).
  3. For civil cases subject to the judicial recess, apply the recess rule.
  4. Check the last day and its weekday; move it to the next working day if it is a public holiday.

Notes

Weekdays use ISO numbers: 1 = Monday … 7 = Sunday. Month and year additions clamp to the last day of the target month (31 January + 1 month = 28 or 29 February; 29 February + 1 year = 28 February). Saturday and Sunday are treated as holidays; national and religious holidays, half-day eves and administrative leave are not. With the recess rule, periods ending between 20 July and 31 August move to 7 September and the weekend rule is applied afterwards.
