Volumetric Shipping Weight Calculator
Calculates parcel volume and desi (volumetric weight) from length, width and height. Set the divisor (3000, 5000, 6000) to your carrier and compare with actual weight for the billable desi.
Things to keep in mind:
- The divisor depends on the carrier and transport mode; 3000 is only a common default.
- Some carriers round desi differently or apply a minimum desi; check your tariff.
- The result is not a shipping fee; use the contract shipping cost tool for pricing.

About this tool
Desi is the unit Turkish carriers use to price the space a parcel takes up like weight. For light but bulky parcels the shipping fee follows desi, not kilograms.
Formulas
- Volume (cm³) = length × width × height
- Calculated desi = volume ÷ divisor (rounded up to 2 decimals)
- Rounded-up desi = next whole number of the calculated desi
- Billable desi = next whole number of max(calculated desi; actual weight in kg)
The divisor is a carrier convention, not a law. 3000 is common for domestic road parcels; air freight and some express services use 5000 or 6000. Change the divisor field to match your contract.
Example 1: a 25 × 21 × 17 cm parcel at divisor 3000: volume 8,925 cm³, calculated desi 2.975 → 2.98, rounded-up desi 3.
Example 2: a 45 × 30 × 20 cm parcel at divisor 3000: volume 27,000 cm³, desi 9.
Example 3 — a different divisor: a 50 × 40 × 30 cm parcel at divisor 5000: volume 60,000 cm³, desi 12.
Example 4 — weight is higher: a 30 × 20 × 10 cm parcel weighing 5.2 kg has volumetric desi 2, but since the weight is higher the billable desi is 6.
How to read the result: calculated desi is the raw volume-based value; rounded-up desi is the whole number to which most tariffs round fractional desi. Billable desi, if you entered the actual weight, is based on the larger of volumetric desi and weight and is the value that sets the shipping fee. Each carrier applies its own measuring and rounding rules, so the result is an estimate; use the contract shipping cost tool for pricing.
How to use
- Enter the parcel length, width and height in centimetres.
- Enter your carrier divisor (3000 is common).
- Optionally enter the actual weight in kg.
- Press Calculate.
Notes
Volume and calculated desi are rounded up (2 decimals); carriers usually round fractional desi up to the next whole desi. Each carrier applies its own measuring and rounding rules, so the result is an estimate. Use outer dimensions including padding.
Frequently asked questions
Desi is volumetric weight: parcel volume divided by a divisor. The carrier may bill the larger of desi and actual weight.
Length × width × height (cm) ÷ 3000. A 30 × 20 × 10 cm parcel is 6000 ÷ 3000 = 2 desi.
It is a common sector convention for domestic road parcels, not a legal value. Air freight may use 5000 or 6000; change the divisor.
Usually the larger of the two. Enter the actual weight and the billable desi uses the larger value.
Most tariffs round up to the next whole desi, and this tool shows that. Verify your own carrier rule.
