Time Unit Converter: Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Days

This tool converts a duration between time units and splits the same duration into the form "1 day 3 hours 46 minutes 40 seconds".

Formula: result = value × (seconds per source unit) ÷ (seconds per target unit)

Definitions used:

• 1 minute = 60 s, 1 hour = 3,600 s, 1 day = 86,400 s, 1 week = 7 days = 604,800 s
• 1 year = Julian year = 365.25 days = 31,557,600 s (the conventional year used in astronomy and in averages)
• 1 month = year ÷ 12 = 30.4375 days = 2,629,800 s (average month)

Breakdown: for a total of S seconds, days = ⌊S ÷ 86,400⌋, then hours = ⌊remainder ÷ 3,600⌋, then minutes = ⌊remainder ÷ 60⌋ and the remaining seconds (⌊ ⌋ means rounding down).

Example: 100,000 seconds = 100,000 ÷ 3,600 ≈ 27.77777778 hours. Breakdown: ⌊100,000 ÷ 86,400⌋ = 1 day, remainder 13,600 s → 3 hours, remainder 2,800 s → 46 minutes, remainder 40 seconds.

Months and years are average values; for real calendar month lengths (28–31 days) and leap years use the date tools.

Extra example: 1 year = 31,557,600 s = 525,960 min = 8,766 h = 365.25 days ≈ 52.17857143 weeks and 12 average months. The breakdown reads 365 days 6 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds.

How to read the result: the “Result” line is the value in the target unit you chose; the other lines show the same duration in all units. The “conversion factor” gives how many target units one source unit equals. The breakdown writes the duration as days, hours, minutes and remaining seconds. The month and year lines are averages; for the real span between two specific dates use the date tools.
