Weighted Grade Point Average Calculator
Combine your course grades with credit or ECTS weights and calculate the weighted grade average (GPA) for up to 8 courses.
Things to keep in mind:
- Letter-grade coefficients differ between universities; this tool does not convert them.
- Some universities drop the old grade of a retaken course; apply that rule yourself.
- For the official GPA, your university’s student information system is authoritative.

About this tool
A weighted grade average multiplies each course grade by that course’s credit (or ECTS, or weight), adds the products and divides by the total weight. High-credit courses influence the result more.
Formula Weighted average = (grade₁ × weight₁ + grade₂ × weight₂ + …) / (weight₁ + weight₂ + …)
Example: grades 80, 90, 70, 100 with credits 3, 2, 1, 4 give a weighted points sum of 80×3 + 90×2 + 70×1 + 100×4 = 890, total credit 10 and an average of 89.00. With equal credits (1, 1, 1, 1) the result is the plain mean, 85.00.
The tool supports up to 8 courses; the first is required and the others are optional (leave grade and weight at 0 for unused courses). Any grade scale works: enter 0–100 for a percentage system or 0–4 for a 4.0 system, but all grades must use the same scale. Universities convert letter grades to coefficients (e.g. A = 4.0) under their own regulations; do that conversion first and enter the coefficients. The result is rounded half-up to two decimals.
Example 2 (decimal grade): a 2-credit course graded 88.5 and a 1-credit course graded 91, plus two 1-credit courses entered with grade 0, give a weighted points sum of 88.5×2 + 91×1 = 268, total weight 5 and an average of 53.60. A course with weight above 0 counts even if its grade is 0; leave the weight at 0 for courses you are not using.
How to read the result The weighted average is on the same scale as the grades you enter (0–100 for a percentage system, 0–4 for a 4.0 system). Total credit/weight is the sum of the weights that took part; the weighted points sum is Σ(grade × weight), and the average is that sum divided by the total weight. The result is a convenience figure; your university's system is authoritative for the official average.
How to use
- Enter the grade of each course.
- Enter the course credit, ECTS or weight.
- Leave grade and weight at 0 for unused courses.
- Press Calculate.
Notes
The result is rounded half-up to two decimals. Courses with weight 0 are ignored. All grades must be on the same scale (all 100-point or all 4.0). University-specific coefficient tables are not built in.
Frequently asked questions
Multiply each grade by its credit, add the products and divide by total credits. Example: (80×3 + 90×2 + 70×1 + 100×4) / 10 = 89.00.
A plain average counts every course equally. In a weighted average a 4-credit course counts four times as much as a 1-credit course.
Yes. Convert letter grades to your university’s coefficient (e.g. 3.50), enter them as grades and the credits as weights. The result is a 4.0-scale GPA.
Up to 8. For more, calculate each term separately and combine: overall = Σ(term average × term credits) / Σ credits.
