Bill Split and Tip Calculator
Split a restaurant or shared bill by the number of people, add a tip percentage and round each share up to 1, 5 or 10 TRY for easy payment.
Things to keep in mind:
- The bill is divided equally among everyone; different consumption per person is not modelled.
- Tipping is not legally required and some venues already add a service charge to the bill; avoid counting both.
- The surplus stays with the recipient as an extra tip; if the venue handles it differently, adjust the share yourself.

About this tool
This tool works out each person's share of a dinner or any shared bill including the tip; optionally it rounds the share up so nobody needs small change.
Formulas
- Tip = Bill × Tip % / 100 (rounded to the cent)
- Total with tip = Bill + Tip
- Per person = Total with tip / People
- Rounded share = ⌈Per person / step⌉ × step (step: 0.01, 1, 5 or 10 TRY)
- Surplus = Rounded share × People − Total with tip
Example: a TRY 850.50 bill, 12.5% tip and 3 people. The tip is 106.31, the total 956.81 and each share 318.94. Rounding up to 5 TRY makes everyone pay 320; the 960 collected leaves a 3.19 surplus that acts as an extra tip. In another example a 100 TRY bill with no tip is split between 3 people: each share is 33.33; rounding up to the cent makes everyone pay 33.34, 100.02 is collected and a 0.02 surplus remains.
How to read the result "Per person" is the exact equal share without rounding; "Rounded share per person" is what you actually pay. "Total collected" is always equal to or above the total with tip, and the difference is shown as the "Rounding surplus". With larger steps (e.g. 10 TRY) the surplus can grow: for a 1,234.56 TRY bill, 15 % tip and 7 people, each pays 210 instead of 202.82 and the surplus is 50.26.
With rounding set to "none" the share is rounded up to the cent, so the amount collected never falls short of the bill. A tip is optional; set the rate to 0 to just split the bill.
How to use
- Enter the bill amount before the tip.
- Enter the tip rate (0 if none) and the number of people.
- Optionally choose a per-person rounding step.
- Click Calculate to see what everyone pays and the rounding surplus.
Notes
The tip and per-person amount are rounded HALF_UP to the cent. The rounded share is always rounded up (ceiling), so the amount collected is never less than the bill. The bill is split equally; for unequal consumption see the share-split tool.
Frequently asked questions
Tipping is not legally required; you choose the rate and can enter any percentage in the tip field. If a service charge is already on the bill, make sure you are not counting both.
Rounding up guarantees that the money collected covers the bill, while rounding down can leave it short. The difference is shown separately as the rounding surplus.
"Total with tip" is bill plus tip. If you prefer to tip in cash and pay the bill by card, take the tip amount separately.
This tool splits equally. For different shares use the share-split tool.
