Dividend Yield Calculator (Gross and Net Dividend Yield)

Calculates gross and after-withholding net dividend yield from the gross dividend per share and share price, your total net dividend and the payout ratio.

Version 1

Things to keep in mind:

  • The calculation is for resident individual shareholders; corporations, non-residents and investment funds have different withholding and exemption rules.
  • Bonus share distributions, shares given instead of cash and interim dividends must be assessed separately.
  • The annual return, the 50% exemption and the credit for withheld tax are not calculated here; use the dividend income return tool.
  • Past dividends do not guarantee future payments; results are not investment advice.

About this tool

Dividend yield shows how much cash dividend a stock pays relative to its price and is the ratio dividend investors watch most. The per-share amount announced by companies is gross; because withholding tax is deducted from dividends paid to resident individuals in Turkey, the amount credited to your account is lower. This tool calculates both yields; the withholding rate comes from the current official parameter.

Formulas

  • Gross dividend yield (%) = gross dividend per share ÷ share price × 100
  • Net dividend per share = gross dividend × (1 − withholding rate ÷ 100)
  • Net dividend yield (%) = net dividend per share ÷ share price × 100
  • Total gross dividend = gross dividend per share × quantity; withholding = total gross × rate; net = gross − withholding
  • Payout ratio (%) = dividend per share ÷ earnings per share × 100

Example

Gross dividend 2.50 TL per share, share price 50 TL, 15% withholding, 100 shares, earnings per share 5 TL:

  • Gross yield = 2.50 ÷ 50 = 5.00%; net per share = 2.50 × 0.85 = 2.125 TL → net yield 4.25%
  • For 100 shares: gross 250 TL, withholding 37.50 TL, net 212.50 TL
  • Payout ratio = 2.50 ÷ 5 = 50%

How to read the result

Yield is the return of the announced dividend at today's price; it rises as the price falls. A high yield can also result from a price drop caused by problems; a payout ratio above 100% shows that the company distributes more than it earned. When dividend income exceeds a certain amount an annual tax return may be required; use the dividend income return tool for that.

How to use

  1. Enter the gross dividend per share announced by the company.
  2. Enter the current share price (or your purchase price).
  3. Optionally enter your quantity and earnings per share.
  4. Read the gross and net yield, total net dividend and payout ratio.

Notes

The withholding rate comes from the current official parameter for dividends paid to resident individuals and is shown in the sources section. Total gross dividend and withholding are each rounded to the cent and the net amount is the difference. Net dividend per share is rounded to 4 decimals and ratios to 2 decimals (half-up).

4 questions
  1. Divide the dividend per share by the share price. If a 50 TL stock pays a 2.50 TL gross dividend, the gross yield is 5%; after 15% withholding the net yield is 4.25%.
